Policy holders with Risi Insurance should verify their coverage through the state.

The state is looking for possible Charlton County victims of fraud after a local insurance agent was charged with the crime in Glynn County last week.

James "Jim" Risi, 59, owner of Risi Insurance Services with offices in Brunswick, Folkston, Jesup and Nahunta, was arrested after an investigation by the State Board of Workers' Compensation Enforcement Division.

According to the enforcement division executive director, Stan Bexley, additional charges are anticipated as the investigation continues.

"Anyone in the Folkston/Charlton County area who has purchased workers' compensation insurance through the Risi Agency should confirm the policy by either going to the workers' compensation board website or calling the board's coverage unit," Bexley said. "If coverage cannot be confirmed, please file a complaint with our agency."

Risi is charged with taking premium dollars for insurance policies that were never acutally issued. An investigation determined that on at least four separate occasions, Risi took money from customers and issued bogus certificates of insurance. He could not be reached for comment.

The Workers' Compensation board website is www.sbwc.georgia.gov and the agency's toll-free number (800)533-0682.
