District Judge Roger Cockerille prohibited Calamity Jayne's restaurant from doing business until it obtains a Workers'
Comp policy, the Idaho Industrial Commission said Friday.
Owner James Barrett kept the restaurant open despite warnings even after his policy was canceled July 1, ithe commission
said.
The commission is charged with administering Idaho's Workers' Compensation system, which is designed to insure nearly all
Idaho workers for work-related injuries. Penalties for failure to provide insurance can include business closure,
imprisonment and fines.
The commission' Web site, www.iic.idaho.gov, offers a link that allows employees to find out if their employer has proper
Workers' Compensation coverage. Employees can also contact the commission's Employer Compliance division at 334-6000.
No one answered the phone at the restaurant Friday afternoon, and Barrett could not immediately be reached for comment.
