Robert A. Ekin, 39, a partner in now-defunct Midtown Chiropractic, was accused of falsely billing insurance companies
between 2003 and 2006 for tests and services that were not performed.
Ekin's wife, Angelica, said the outcome was a "glorious victory." The jury returned after 1 a.m. today after about 14
hours of deliberations.
The second defendant, Indianapolis attorney David M. Wood, 50, was accused of drafting a letter to an insurance company
on behalf of a Midtown client he had never met. But Wood's attorney, David Lewis, told jurors the client had used another
person's identity.
The jury began deliberating about 11 a.m. Wednesday after a three-day trial in Judge Tanya Walton Pratt's courtroom.
Earlier, during his closing argument, Ekin's attorney, Bryan Cook, said all services were performed, Ekin wasn't
responsible for billing, and the insurance companies were resisting paying the claims.
Ekin had faced one count of corrupt business influence, four counts of attempted theft and five counts of insurance
fraud. Wood was charged with forgery, attempted theft and insurance fraud.
